Robot Vacuum Cleaners
67What are Robot Vacuum Cleaners?
Robot Vacuum Cleaners have been available to consumers since 2002 really when iRobot released their highly successful Roomba which has now sold around 2.5 million units worldwide. Robotic vacuum cleaners have created from our desire to automate as much as possible. There has been a cultural shift away from working and more towards life balance and leisure activities. People have realised that living to work is not what life should be about. Most people no longer have to work to live in the same way past generations did. We have spare time and we like to make the most of it. As women have moved away from the traditional stay at home mom roles and commonly juggle careers with bringing up children they have less time for cleaning. Enter the robot vacuum cleaner.
Imagine coming home to a clean house
Nobody likes spending time cleaning, and modern technology has come a long way. We have spoken about and dreamt of all kinds of gadgets and technology which will help us but a lot is yet to materialise. Robot vacuum cleaners are one that have. They are not always the most advanced technology, and many have very simplistic operating systems. They tend to move randomly within a given area and just clean away. This can take several hours, often a lot longer than it would take for a person to do the same job. However, the robotic vacuum cleaner can be doing this whilst you are out at work all day.

More about Robot Vacuum Cleaners
When thinking about buying a robot vacuum cleaner you need to consider various factors. The first is the price. The lower priced models are more than capable of cleaning simple hard wood flooring. More advanced models however come with more features. These include scheduling - which allows you to program when you would like your vacuum to clean. Ideally when everyone is out of the house therefore reducing the amount of disruption to your life plus - what is better than coming home to a clean house.
More advanced models are typically better at transitioning between hard wood and carpet. Depending on the surfaces in your house this may be an important factor to consider. Dirt detection is a feature that improves efficiency when cleaning. Models can even detect whether they have missed a corner. Lower priced models will simply clean constantly and move randomly - therefore eventually covering everywhere.
The robotic vacuum is battery powered. Some will require charging manually whilst others have the ability to return to their docking stations to charge when they are running low on power. Other navigational factors include the ability to detect obstacles and get around them and avoiding stairs. Stair detection can be a handy feature to help maintain your vacuum safe - again this depends on your home's layout.
The most popular robotic vacuum cleaner is the iRobot Roomba. There are a number of models available. Other brands such as Dyson have also released these. I highly recommend reading some robot vacuum cleaner reviews.

I've got one. We named him Robbie. And when it's going around vacuuming and I'm doing something else, I tell everyone I'm multi tasking.
